GOSS COLLECTORS’ CLUB AUCTION

DECEMBER 2018

Welcome to the Goss Collectors' Club monthly auction of Goss and other makes of heraldic (or crested) china.

Below are listed the items available in this month's auction. For each lot, descriptions both of the piece and of the arms or decoration it bears (if any) are given, followed by its reserve price. Lots listed in normal (upright) typeface were produced by the Goss factory, though this is not stated explicitly in the individual descriptions unless the item is a late "Goss England" piece. Items produced by other factories are listed in italic type, and in these cases the description begins with the factory name, which is underlined.

Please note that the auctions are only open to members of the Goss Collectors' Club, who are welcome to submit bids for or requests for information about specific pieces in it by email to the club auction secretary. Members and non-members may also purchase unsold items from earlier auctions at the reserve price. Regularly updated lists of the currently available items can be found here.

Non-members may send in postal bids for pieces in these auctions provided their membership application and the appropriate subscription is sent at the same time. Please see the club's home page or contact its website manager for details.

For the full terms and conditions of bidding please see the auction rules.

Enquiries regarding the Goss Collectors' Club may be submitted to its website manager.

Seasons greetings to you all

Firstly, a reminder that, as usual, the final auction of the year will be held very early the schedule being noon on the first of December – couldn’t get any earlier!

The whole point being to seek to ensure that everything can get to its new home before the Christmas rush really starts to delay matters.  On the subject of new homes I have a number of Price Guides and whilst the suggested values are not to be taken seriously the information and illustrations are of the highest order and can be very useful as a work of reference.  They are free to anyone who wants one but if you do want one then you pay the postage.  I don’t have any of the other publications.

Again, I would plead for ‘new’ stock – it sells well and if rare/unusual/desirable then I have members just itching to acquire such models – but not busts, cottages, unless the really rare ones, or Flower Girls please as they don’t seem to make bidding muscles work.

So, if I can encourage a bid by noon on the 1st December please and do also remember that electronic bids MUST be by midnight on auction eve.

Ted

White glazed Boot Black with usual inscription on the letter box (Missing, as is almost invariably the case, indeed Terry was of the view that they were made as spill holders and never had a lid, the lid of the letter box the rim of which has a small chip from it. The blacking brush also missing and there are a few very small firing spots the largest of which is where his waistcoat joins) I am unsure just when this was made but lean towards an early example as it, unusually in my experience, has a line of gilding around the edge of the top of the stand which has the look of early gilding.  The backstamp is a large gold Gosshawk.
