GOSS COLLECTORS’ CLUB AUCTION

DECEMBER 2017

Welcome to the Goss Collectors' Club monthly auction of Goss and other makes of heraldic (or crested) china.

Below are listed the items available in this month's auction. For each lot, descriptions both of the piece and of the arms or decoration it bears (if any) are given, followed by its reserve price. Lots listed in normal (upright) typeface were produced by the Goss factory, though this is not stated explicitly in the individual descriptions unless the item is a late "Goss England" piece. Items produced by other factories are listed in italic type, and in these cases the description begins with the factory name, which is underlined.

Please note that the auctions are only open to members of the Goss Collectors' Club, who are welcome to submit bids for or requests for information about specific pieces in it by email to the club auction secretary. Members and non-members may also purchase unsold items from earlier auctions at the reserve price. Regularly updated lists of the currently available items can be found here.

Non-members may send in postal bids for pieces in these auctions provided their membership application and the appropriate subscription is sent at the same time. Please see the club's home page or contact its website manager for details.

For the full terms and conditions of bidding please see the auction rules.

Enquiries regarding the Goss Collectors' Club may be submitted to its website manager.

Season’s Greetings.

Yes it is the end of another year!  You may recall that I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to offer any interesting pieces which I have long strived to include to make the year’s final listing an interesting read.  I am pleased to say that when it came to completing the list I did have some ‘tasty’ pieces to offer you.  Thus I hope that it will be an interesting read.

For many years we have been accustomed to the Postal Services being overwhelmed by ‘Christmas Post’, indeed the late collection by a courier in early October was, according to their employee, because the Christmas rush had already stared!!  Thus, PLEASE NOTE that in line with precedent the December auction will be held on the first Saturday – 2nd December and bids should be with me by noon on that day.

A selection of items found many years ago at the Goss factory rubbish tip.  All are unmarked and reflect their age and, in particular where they were found – comprising:

·      Staff one handled Tyg

·      Cigarette Holder – extensive crack from the rim which virtually encircles the aperture for the cigarette

·      Base and precious little of the uprights of a Haamoga Amaui, Tonga – very dirty and doesn’t sit ‘flat’

·      The head and some of the neck of a rhinoceros – very dirty

·      The face and most of the mane of a lion

·      A Hawkin’s Henley Scull – in two parts with a small chip missing at the join
