It’s still that time of year when many people take their holidays, so August’s pot of the month is this tea/biscuit plate bearing a colour transfer of R.M.S Queen Mary (R.M.S – “Royal Mail Ship”). Measuring 6″/15cm in diameter this is third period (1930 – 1939), and would make a lovely colourful addition to any collection, especially if you collect Royal Mail Ship decorations. Besides the W.H Goss back Stamp, the plate also carries the name and address of the local Goss Agent who would have commissioned it, presumably as a memento for passengers to purchase.
However, we all know that the Queen Mary was so much more than just a Royal Mail Steamship. This iconic British ocean liner operated from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard Line, primarily travelling the North Atlantic U.K to U.S.A route. If you were well off, your holiday may well have started with a trip on this beautiful ship. It is now permanently docked in Long Beach, California, where you can still go and see it.
