Pot of the month for August is a 3¼”/8cm high Three Handled Loving Cup. “What’s the connection with August?” we hear you say. Well, the main decoration shows a picture of a “Cinque Port Man of War” built during the reign of Henry V11. He seized the Crown on 2nd August 1485, becoming England’s first Tudor Monarch.
This Loving Cup offers “three for the price of one” as the other two sides carry the crest of Folkstone (not a Cinque Port, presumably included only because the Loving Cup was sold by the Folkestone Goss Agent) and Kent, respectively.
The base of the Loving cup shows the Goss Agents details, a design registration number, and the W.H Goss back-stamp.
